Being an Educator allows you to have more time to spend with your family. You can take your own children to and from school, take them on excursions with you and include them in your everyday learning experiences with your family day care children. You will be approved to care for 4 under school age children per day, up to a maximum of 7 children up to the age of 13. Keep in mind, your own children are counted in these ratios until they are over 13 years of age.
Enjoy working with young children and their families
An ability to establish cooperative working relationships with children, families, Coordination Unit staff, other educators, support services and the local community
Be professional and enthusiastic about being self-employed and operating a small business with the understanding that the Service is unable to guarantee income
Sound record keeping practices and organisational skills
Be over 18 years of age
Maintain a smoke, drug and alcohol-free environment whilst providing care
Motivated to continually improve and reflect on the care and education provided as well as a commitment to ongoing Professional Development
Access to a computer, internet and a printer for the use of our web-based platform Harmony, business communication and record keeping.
Attend Induction Training
Hold a Certificate III in Children’s Services, Diploma in Children’s Services or another ACECQA approved qualification
Medical check
Child protection, safe sleep and food safety training
Attain or already hold a QLD Blue Card for the Educator and all Adult occupants within the Family Day Care residence.
Attain or hold an approved First Aid Certificate in the Education and Care Setting
Public Liability Insurance for your business
Sufficient and suitable furniture, materials and developmentally appropriate equipment

The process of becoming an Educator may take some time allowing for: collection of required documents, completion of home safety audit items, the interview process to occur which involves a number of home visits by coordinators and possible processing of Positive Notice Blue Cards.
